Vinegar plus baking soda equals a clean dishwasher filter

There is no way around it, for our homes to remain clean and running smoothly, we need to give special care to our appliances. And when it comes to the dishwasher, the role of the filter should not be taken lightly.

In fact, in order for the dishwasher to function properly, every little part needs to be in full operation. And for this, the filter is absolutely critical. It contributes to all the parts working properly and to achieve the best clean possible. Also, the life of the appliance can be extended if routine maintenance is performed.

So here is how you can save money while getting your dishes clean at the same time.

2 Natural Ingredients: Vinegar and Baking Soda

During each of the dishwasher’s cycles, the filter is being constantly bombarded with debris and residue so that the other parts of the machine can remain clean and operational. The filter’s job will eventually cause it, though, to become blocked and lead to malfunction. The most typical culprits that cause this problem are little pieces of food and even leftover oil from plates and silverware.

So to get started with fixing the problem, we will need to get our two ingredients and a toothbrush.

Now, there are a few variations to this cleaning method. Regardless of your choice, you will need to start by filling a bucket with hot water. Next, you have the option of adding white wine vinegar or lemon juice to the water, just make sure you are mixing equal parts of water and your product. Once mixed, let the solution sit for about 30 minutes.

Once the solution is ready, we can apply it to the filter. After removing the filter, pour the solution in and around it until it is free of debris. Once you are satisfied with the results you can put it right back into the machine, simple as that.

Baking powder can also be just as effective. With this method, we can mix 150 grams of baking soda with 200 ml of hot water and a spoonful of dishwashing soap. Start mixing up the ingredients until a smooth paste has been formed. Now you can rub the solution into the filter with either a toothbrush or a sponge. Always remember to rinse the filter, and then you can put it back in the machine.

If you are desperate and can’t find any of the ingredients mentioned above, you also have the option of using coarse salt or bicarbonate.
