Don’t Throw Away the Peels of These 3 Foods, I’ll Tell You How to Use Them to Prepare a Blessing for Your Plants
If you have a passion for tending to your small garden and seeing your healthy and luxuriant seedlings grow, you will certainly provide them with the right nourishment. But have you ever thought that when you eat fruit, instead of throwing away the peels, you could reuse them to prepare natural fertilizers?
Indeed, these food remnants can be highly beneficial for plants, as they provide them with all the nutrients they need to develop at their best. Moreover, recycling them would contribute significantly to reducing food waste.
3 Food Fertilizers Obtained from Fruit Peels
Seasonal fruit peels are a great addition to making compost. This is because they contain a large amount of nutrients and fiber that can be returned to the soil to encourage plant growth. Fruit peels are a treasure trove of valuable nutrients like potassium, magnesium, and vitamins that plants readily absorb. Furthermore, they also contain a good amount of fiber, which contributes to improving the structure of the soil and facilitating the absorption of water and nutrients.
To use them, we are going to prepare compost tea, an excellent liquid fertilizer. Gather these materials: seasonal fruit peels, a large bucket, chlorine-free water, a watering can, water, and a cotton cloth.
Fill the bucket with the peels and add chlorine-free water to cover them. Let them soak for 24-48 hours. After this time, filter the compost tea through a cotton cloth, dilute it with some clean water, and use the mixture to water your plants.
Potato peelings are also valuable for composting due to their potassium and nutrient content. Spread the potato peels on a baking tray covered with parchment paper and let them dry. Place them in a bucket, add water, and let them soak for 24 hours. Afterward, strain the mixture and use the resulting liquid fertilizer to water your plants.
Finally, you can create a liquid fertilizer using banana peels. Banana peels are packed with valuable nutrients like potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium – all crucial for the healthy growth and development of plants. These nutrients can greatly enhance soil quality, encourage more vibrant flowering, and even boost fruit production in your plants.
Put banana peels in a jar. Boil some water and pour it into the jar until it is completely covered. Let it sit for 3-4 days. Pour the liquid from the jar into a watering can. Add some water to make it less strong. Use this mixture to water your plants.
