The secret to making tomato sauce taste sweeter
When making tomato sauce, we have all probably encountered one common disappointment: an acidic tomato sauce that leaves a strange aftertaste. It is always a little disheartening to have to discard something that we put so much effort into preparing. However, there is a way to fix the problem and restore that sweet taste that we were looking for.
There are just so happens that there are a few ingredients that can come to our rescue, and two of them can typically be found already in the kitchen. So let’s see how we can save our next portion of tomato sauce and even adding a bit more flavor at the same time.
Potatoes and Carrots
We put so much emphasis on our sauces because they add so much to our other dishes. Whether we are adding a little extra to meat or creating an ideal serving of vegetables, fresh ingredients and fine olive oil are essential. Unfortunately, the tomatoes we use can sometimes steer us in the wrong direction, leaving a sour note in the back of the mouth.
When this happens, though, do not feel defeated and just throw away your sauce right away. Two ingredients are all we need to resolve the problem, potatoes and carrots. Take one of the two, then wash and peel. Next, take the ingredient of choice and let it fully cook in the sauce. During the process, the carrot or potato will absorb all the excess acidity. And that’s all there is to it!
So the next time you are about to create one of your favorite tomato-based sauces, make sure that you have some potatoes or carrots on hand. One of these two ingredients can be the deciding factor between a spectacular dish and something you will just end up throwing away.
