Towels and Bathrobes: How to Get Rid of the Damp Smell with This Trick
With the arrival of the winter season, it’s common for towels and bathrobes to develop a musty or damp smell. There are several potential causes exist, beginning with incorrect washing or drying methods and unsuitable storage environments. So, let’s focus on the remedies to resolve this issue and restore a pleasant scent.
Has the damp smell permeated your towels and bathrobes? Here’s how to bid it farewell!
Vinegar and baking soda are known for their cleaning, stain-removing, and deodorizing properties. Add a cup of white vinegar to the washing machine and run the first wash cycle. Then, mix a cup of baking soda with water to prevent pipe blockage and initiate the second cycle. You can also enhance the scent by incorporating your favorite essential oils.
If you prefer an alternative to vinegar, citric acid is an excellent choice. Dissolve 75 grams of citric acid in half a liter of warm water and add 10 drops of your preferred essential oil. Pour approximately 100 ml of this mixture into the detergent compartment of your washing machine and start the wash.
If you’re interested in trying something different, combine two tablespoons of liquid Marseille soap with a tablespoon of baking soda in the detergent compartment of your washing machine. Proceed as usual and activate the cycle.
Marseille soap contributes a pleasant fragrance; salt is also recognized for its odor-absorbing properties. To use them, dissolve 10 grams of salt in a liter of water and add 10 drops of essential oil. Place this mixture in the washing machine’s detergent drawer, and you’re all set!
Lastly, lemon juice is another effective solution. Mix around 600 ml of lemon juice with five liters of water, then soak the items you wish to treat in this solution for approximately an hour. After soaking, proceed with the regular washing cycle, and you’re done. Due to lemon’s renowned whitening properties, we recommend this method primarily for white or light-toned towels and bathrobes.
